Keri and Kenny July 23 2011

Wow, what a party!  Keri Cannon and Kenny Swanberg celebrated their marriage, along with their families and close to 400 guests, in the beautiful Jumers Casino Grand Ballroom on July 23.

It was easy to see that Keri and Kenny are truly loved by their family and friends, and this energetic group of people created a lifetime of memories in one evening.

We arrived mid afternoon to find an amazing variety of floral arrangements being set up by Cathy from Hy-Vee in Silvis.  My wife Robin began setting up the accent lighting in Blue and Teal while I set up our digital BOSE sound system near the dance floor.

It is always our goal to have our sound and lighting equipment set up in such a way to blend into the room and not be visually obtrusive or overpowering.  The photo below is an example of that concept.  The paper lanterns are from Exceptional Events.

After a cocktail hour and a plated dinner the guests viewed the video Love Story of the couple, produced by Ruby Media.

Then Kenny and Keri opened the dance floor with their first dance to “”Me and You” by Kenny Chesney.  That dance floor was packed for the duration of the night, right up until the last song of the evening.

Trena and Michael’s Wedding-April 18, 2009

When a small town Iowa girl heads off to the big city to pursue her dreams, anything can happen.

Such is the story of Trena Schmidt.  Trena met a handsome young man from The Big Apple who was climbing the corporate ladder of success.  In no time at all this hard charging young man named Michael Coffey fell in love with Trena.  A Midwestern Wedding was planned; and that wedding took  place right here in the Quad Cities on April 18, 2009.

Black Tie was honored to entertain the energetic group of wedding reception guests.  From the moment the cocktail hour began at 5:00 PM in the elegant atrium area of the Radisson Quad City Plaza you could sense the growing anticipation.  At 6:00 PM the dinner chimes were sounded.  Guests entered the superbly decorated banquet room ready to eat and celebrate!

The wedding party consisted of 36 persons to be included in the grand entrance.  This was quite a large and happy wedding party indeed!  They made their banquet room entrance with the techno version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” as an exciting backdrop.

The new couple, Trena and Michael Coffey, made a spectacular splash as they entered to a cheering crowd and immediately took to the dance floor with their formal bride and groom dance – “Crazy Love” by Aaron Neville.  The guests were now primed to enjoy a plated dinner carefully prepared and served by the chefs and wait staff of the Radisson.

Eloquent speeches and toasts were given by Tammy Schmidt (Sister of the Bride) and Tim Coffey (Brother of the Groom).   During the break between the salad and the main course Michael enjoyed a special formal dance with his Aunt Eileen Hughes.  After dinner Trena participated in two formal dances, one with her Father Jim Schmidt, and one with her Step-Father Randy Stender.

The dance floor was opened at exactly 8:00 PM beginning with a snowball dance by the entire bridal party as they followed my lead in doing some comical dance moves.  The electricity in the air was scintillating and one could sense that this group of 200 guests, and a very large contingent from New York City visiting Iowa for the first time, was truly ready to party into the night!

We had scheduled a three hour open dance for the Coffey’s, but it became clear that this fun-loving, electric group of wedding guests would be able to party well past the 11PM scheduled ending time.  It was decided to extend their dance by an extra hour.  Out of the entire 240 minutes of open dance time there were less than 20 minutes of slow, romantic type dance music.  This group had a high energy four-hour workout!

We closed out the evening with the traditional circle of love and a family tradition of “Last Dance” by Donna Summer.

Sons Take Mom Out Dancing

The Davenport Parks and Recreation Department held its 2009 version of the annual Mother/Son Formal at the River Center on March 22.  This family friendly event allows young men from ages 2 to teen to take their Mom on a fun-filled formal date.  Once again this year Black Tie Entertainment Inc. was honored to play a special part in the occasion.

Guests entered the Mississippi Hall at the River Center around 5:30 PM to find the room decorated with blue and white streamers and blue balloon bouquets.  Once inside the Moms and Sons could choose to have a formal photo taken by Family Focus.  Other activities included a craft table, where key chains could be made or pictures of cars could be colored.  There were additional activities at each dinner table.

A tasty buffet was served by Golick’s Meat Market in Davenport.  The menu included ham, chicken, scalloped potatoes, mac & cheese, fruit salad and lemonade.   Pieces of cake decorated with a blue bow tie were available for dessert.

At 6:30 PM I asked the gentlemen to escort their dates to the dance floor.  At times it was the Moms teaching the young boys some basic dance steps, and at other times it was the other way around.  In either case it was evident that the 200 guests in attendance had great fun sharing some quality time on the parquet dance floor.

Follow Me!

Everyone got a chance to rest their feet at 7:25 in order to give away some fabulous prizes.  But soon the dance floor was open again.  Time didn’t permit playing everyone’s music request, but most requests were able to be honored before the evening ended at 8:00 PM.
